This level is for everyone who has ever liked photography. Focused to get the basics right, it opens up the world of photography and the many possibilities that one can explore. Learning how to use the camera by understanding the principles of photography is always a good start.

Learn the art of photography from professionals over a few weekends and enjoy a lifetime of joy by creating beautiful visuals.

ASSIGNMENT

Session 1 : The Foundation- Understanding the Camera and Light

TOPICS

– The exposure triangle: ISO, shutter speed, aperture
– Depth of field and motion control
– Understanding different types of light (natural, artificial, mixed)
– Camera handling, lenses, and focusing modes

DEMOS

– Live demonstration with different shutter/aperture combinations
– Exercise in controlling light and motion

ASSIGNMENT

Create 5 photos exploring motion blur, freeze frame, and shallow vs. deep depth of field.

Session 2 : The Art of Seeing — Composition and framing

Objective

Train the eye. Move beyond snapshots into intentional framing.

Topics

Topics
-Rule of thirds, leading lines, balance, framing, symmetry/asymmetry
– Negative space, perspective, layers
– Visual storytelling — what’s in and out of the frame

DEMOS

– Analyze great photographs to identify composition choices
– Live composition exercise using simple objects or people
Practical

-Guided outdoor exercise (campus or nearby street) focusing on

composition

ASSIGNMENT

Create a 6-image series demonstrating varied compositional techniques.

Session 3 : The Creative Eye: Light, Mood & Colour

Objective

Understand how light defines mood, depth, and story.

Topics

– Natural light (morning/evening vs. midday)
– Using shade, reflections, and windows
-Introduction to artificial light: LED, lamp, flash basics
– Understanding white balance and color temperature

DEMOS

– Shooting the same object under different light conditions
– Creative use of light direction and modifiers (diffuser, reflector)

ASSIGNMENT

Shoot 5–7 photos exploring one subject under changing light conditions.

Session 4 : Storytelling: Street Photography Walk

Objective

Apply everything learned in a real-world environment.

Topics

– Shooting people, moments, and candid scenes
– Observing without interfering
– Ethics of street and documentary photography
– Building a visual narrative

DEMOS

– Guided street photography walk
– Instructor feedback on composition, timing, and interaction

ASSIGNMENT

Create a 10-image street story on a chosen theme.

Session 5 : The Digital Darkroom: Post-Processing

Objective

Introduce the post-shoot process. Keep it simple and practical.

Topics

– Importing, organizing, and backing up photos
– Basic editing in Lightroom or similar software: exposure, contrast, color correction, cropping
– Understanding file formats (RAW vs. JPEG)
– Ethics of digital enhancement

DEMOS

– Live Lightroom edit of participant images
– Before/after comparisons

ASSIGNMENT

Process 3–5 images from earlier assignments and submit final versions.

Session 6 : Review, Critique & Presentation

Objective

Reflect, refine, and celebrate learning.

Activities

– Group critique of selected images from all assignments
– Instructor feedback on individual progress
– Building a small cohesive photo series
– Tips for continued practice and growth (reading, viewing, communities)

Final Showcase

Each participant presents a 10-image mini portfolio — their personal story through
the course.

FAQs

Will I receive a certificate after completing the course?

Yes. Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation upon completing the course. The certificate is awarded after attending the sessions and presenting your final mini portfolio during the review and critique session.

Are study materials provided in the course?

Yes. The course provides supporting study materials and references to help you continue learning beyond the sessions. These include theory handouts or presentation slides, curated references of photographers to study, recommended tutorials, and reading resources.

Do I need a professional camera to join the course?

No, a professional camera is not mandatory to join the course. While having a DSLR or mirrorless camera is helpful for exploring manual settings and techniques, beginners can still participate and learn the core principles of photography using any camera they have access to.

Is the course suitable for beginners?

Yes. The course is specifically designed for beginners who want to learn photography from the fundamentals. It starts with understanding the camera, exposure, and composition before moving into lighting, storytelling, editing, and portfolio creation.

Can I access the course content after completion?

Yes. Participants will receive reference materials, slides, and curated resources that they can continue to use after the course to practice and improve their photography skills. The final assignments and critique notes also serve as guidance for future learning.
